Beach Break Playa de la Garita

Surf spot with restaurants, surf-shop, grocery store and cafés

The pretty beach lies right by the village La Garita where several cafés, fish restaurants, a grocery store and a surf-shop can be found. This place not only invites to bodyboarding and surfing but offers also the opportunity to obtain surf equipment like surf wax. The plunging waves usually break quite close to the beach in shallow waters and are thus mainly preferred by bodyboarders. Now and then, surfers come to La Garita and enjoy short and fast rides on the beach break.

The easiest way to the fishermen’s village La Garita is by bus from Santa Catalina station in Las Palmas. Busses run several times a day and round tickets usually cost less than 4 Euros. In case you like to check out the neighboring surf spots Playa del Hombre, Playa de San Porodon und Playa del Malpaso, it will take you only about 10 minutes of walking along the newly renovated beach promenade to get there.

In terms of Gran Canaria Surfing, along the east coast in particular, Playa de la Garita is certainly one of the central places of Gran Canaria’s surf culture.
